Newport Media Demonstrates MediaFLO Tuner, Demodulator, Protocol Stack and Video Decoder at IBC
First MediaFLO Mobile TV Platform Using Independently Developed FLO Technology
Amsterdam, Netherlands (IBC 2007 Booth #M371) - Sept. 7, 2007 - Newport Media, an innovative fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast media market, announced that it is demonstrating live streaming TV using MediaFLO™ mobile TV technology on a FLO™ receiver platform developed by Newport Media.
PacketVideo (PV), a provider of multimedia software powering the world’s leading mobile entertainment services, partnered with Newport Media on the demonstration. PV’s MediaFLO demonstration is on a Linux-based, reference terminal that features PV’s multimedia player, optimized decoder and program guide application along with Newport Media’s protocol stack.
“Newport Media has made a significant investment in FLO technology since becoming a founding member of the FLO Forum in 2005,” said Mohy Abdelgany, president and chief executive officer of Newport Media. “We have made this investment because we understand that the market requires compliant devices. The platform that we are demonstrating represents a significant technical achievement and is a testament to the openness of the MediaFLO platform.”
Newport Media will demonstrate this end-to-end solution at Newport Media’s booth (M371), inside the Mobile Zone at IBC 2007, Sept. 7-11, in Amsterdam.
“It’s important for the broadcast world to see that MediaFLO technology is an evolving, open platform that can be ported to other device platforms to support a variety of applications,” said James C. Brailean, president and chief executive officer of PacketVideo. “We’re optimistic about the momentum behind the MediaFLO standard because it offers more platform options to our mobile operator customers.”
